Thermometer is measuring device which is used to measure the temperature. There are different types of thermometers used in the world. Normally, we have seen the use of them in hospitals. Doctors use them to measure the temperature range, when we have common flu. It is marked with a set of temperature of readings. It has mercury content in it. The mercury level raises and lowers depending on our body temperature. We can measure the body temperature by keeping the thermometer in our mouth. It should be kept in the mouth for a couple of minutes. The mercury level rises and depending on the temperature marked by the thermometer, doctor will prescribe you the medicines. This is the use of mercury thermometer. Alcohol thermometer is the other commonly used thermometer. It generally makes use of ethanol as a measuring liquid. The maximum temperature it can measure is only about 80 degrees. So, it has only very limited applications. It is commonly used in weather stations to record the maximum temperature of the day. Rarely, it is used in hospitals. There are also other uses with these thermometers. Keep these thermometers in a cool place. This is because mercury becomes unstable when exposed to warm conditions.
